About the Caring Women’s Forum (CWF)
Vision and Mission
Caring Women’s forum is a non-profit organisation, dedicated to promoting, uplifting,
educating, empowering and enhancing the quality of life of those less fortunate, irrespective
of religious beliefs. Built on an Islamic ethos, it is run on a volunteer basis, by passionate
women in the Johannesburg region. The ethos of sustainability and empowerment is
underpinned not just in the relief aid, but also while building a sense of community and
ubuntu. Above all else, to give with dignity.
History and Background of the Organisation
The Caring Women’s Forum (CWF) began in 1995 with the intention of creating a sense of
community with new ladies and families that had moved into the Houghton area. Under the
successful guidance of its founding members, hampers and bursaries were initially donated.
The organization grew over the years with many of the initial members children that
volunteered, now an active part of the organization. With our 30-year anniversary ahead of
us next year, our active member database of 28 ladies continues to implement the vision of
the founding members. In addition to the hampers and bursaries department that have now
grown, our focus has been on sustainability, empowerment, independence and charity with
dignity.
The organization is a strong hold within the community ensuring that much is done to
involve all members of the community. The direction we have received from our founding
members has always been one of inclusivity and collaboration ensuring work done is not
duplicated thereby ensuring a greater reach and impact. Our founding member Ms. Zainab
Tayob is still an active member of the organization. In the years of the organization
operating, CWF Pretoria was started and now runs as an independent organization. With
some of our members now in Cape Town and Malawi – CWF is now able to facilitate and
oversee projects under its auspices in these areas.
